October 12th, 2018... Welcome to October

The leaves are starting to fall!!

We started the month with 70mm’s of rain followed by 30c temperatures. Now we get ready for cooler temperatures, frost and the winter ahead. Our golf course is green & growing, with good recovery of the summer wear and tear.

This is what we are up to in the next few weeks…

  • The remainder of our fertility & protection program applications on greens, tees and fairways.
  • We will be punching and verti-draining greens starting Monday Oct. 15th. The timing of this (back to our October date) will assure holes are closed before going into winter, eliminating the re-occurrence of last spring’s desiccation. As mentioned in the September blog, getting further into the fall, health has become a priority over speed. The aim is to have our greens strong, healthy and happy heading into winter.
  • We will be sodding a number of wear areas on the course. These include heavy traffic areas, bunker edges particularly where our sand-pro enters the bunker. All these areas will be marked ground under repair.

With the weeks left in the golf season, let’s hope Mother Nature give us that great fall weather we had last year!!
