Verti-Draining Greens & Top Dressing Fairways ~ Oct. 31st to Nov. 4th
Greens… In replacement of our Drill & Fill on greens this November, we will be verti-draining which includes topdressing to fill the holes. This will help the greens prepare for the long winter ahead. This procedure is far less disruptive than Drill & Fill, holes will fill quicker, ball roll will definitely be smoother. Greens will be sandy from the topdressing.
Expect temporary holes (on the approach) for those green being worked on.
Fairways… This fall we are starting the bi-annual practice of topdressing fairways. Two applications of sand will go down late fall & early spring. This will help firm fairways creating a stronger/tighter surface with less thatch. In time, this will help us with a stronger plant root zone, better disease control. Firming up fairways will also produce a longer ball roll! Disruption will be minimal as the sand will be brushed in shortly after the application.
The ball may see some sand accumulation, that’s it.
Of course, these procedures are weather dependant. Rain/wet weather will have us moving further into the week, possible the week after. The Turf Department always appreciates the members’ patience during these practices.
