Welcome to the BGCC Spring

BGCC Turf Bulletin

May 10, 2018

The 2018 season is off to another cold start, similar to 2017 & 2016.

The first question of the season has been answered... we are open!

The second question... when will the greens speed up?

Here’s what we need before setting summer heights & speed:

-         Soil temperatures to consistently reach 10 to 15 degrees Celsius for good plant growth.

-         Full recovery from fall/spring aeration holes & any winter damage.

The cold spring has us a good 3 weeks behind what would be considered normal temperatures. In the last 3 springs, April has been acting more like a winter month than spring. Let’s hope this trend does not continue!

Long range forecasts have May remaining cooler, which means current spring conditions will continue.  We ask all members to have patience; weather unfortunately does not follow the BGCC calendar.

Inevitably, warm weather is on its way and the course will soon be in summer mode.

And our two favourite questions will be answered :-))
