Friday, July 31st! An important day for the sisters of the club BECAUSE it is the first date to sign up for the ladies club championship. We had a great turnout last year, and we are hoping that we can build on the comradery displayed during team play this year to encourage everyone to just come out and participate.
Included in the Club Championship is the two day event for Golden Girls, Diamond Lil and Double Diamond Lil that will take place on the first two days of the event.
Why wouldn’t you play? Well – here are some of the reasons we have heard:
I feel that I don’t know the rules well enough …
You have choices here. As always, you can play two balls if you are unsure of the rule. You then keep both scores and ask about it when you get back to the pro shop. We also hope to have some helpers on a couple of the holes (6, 15, and 16) where we have had questions in the past.
Or – you can invite a caddy to accompany you (significant other, girlfriend) who does know the rules – and as an added bonus, you get your cart pushed for you and the sand raked, etc.
It is embarrassing when I have to count every stroke and I have a bad hole …
You will become a certified member of a long standing club if this happens to you – because it has happened to all of us. Not fun – but certainly not unique to you alone.
Three days is too much …
Nope – two days for B, C and D flights (the Saturday and Sunday) with no cut and three days for the Championship and A flights with a cut on Sunday.
I don’t like everyone watching me when I come in on 18...
Right – nothing we can do about this. However, ask any of the members who have played or watched the championships and you will hear many interesting stories about 18. Needless to say, there are some dandies - and you should always play 18 knowing that the onlookers are actually rooting for you - or thinking or talking about one of those ‘dandy’ moments.
We are also looking for ladies to help out with spotting on 5, 16 & 17 as well as ladies to help out with the rules on holes 6, 15 and 16 (water hazards and red staked hazards). If you would like to participate in this way, we would love to have you join us.
See you at the Championship, in any which way you wish to participate- spotting, rules or on the patio for hors d’oeuvres welcoming in the participants from flights D to Championship.
If you do have any other questions, please talk to Danielle or Debbie.
