March 20, 2017
Dear Lady Members,
Happy First Day of Spring! I hope this means that you are starting to think about GOLFING! The Ladies Executive has been busy getting ready for the upcoming season and in this letter you will find some helpful information. The calendar of events has been finalized. Click here to review and download.
We have organized a new interchange with Beverly Golf & Country Club this year. They will be coming to BGCC in June. We will have our “away” interchanges with Hamilton in July and Mississaugua in September. A couple of new events we will be introducing this season are: Cha-Cha-Cha and Bingo Bango Bongo. There will be some “fun prize” events too… so watch out for those! All of the Tuesday events will have an explanation when you sign up on the calendar. The tournament lunches will also include details about the menu and price when you sign up. On Ladies Opening Day, we will be experimenting with a buffet and we will assess how well it is received.
Ladies Member Guest:
The theme for this year’s LMG is “The Golf Oscars”. The committee informed me that they have been working hard and “having a blast”! This promises to be another award winning day! The date is Tuesday June 13th and you can sign up online starting April 12th.
All lady members can sign up online for Team Play beginning April 4th. The cost this year will be $75.00. The Team Play Opening “Draft” Party will be held on Thursday May 11th at 7pm in the Curling Lounge. There will be food and you can order drinks by chit. At this party, participants’ names will be drawn from a hat (according to handicaps) to form teams. All teams will be assigned a colour. When all participants’ names are drawn, each team will get together to choose a Team Captain. Team Play will start on May 16th and will consist of 15 weeks. A reminder that there will be no Team Play on the following dates: June 13 (Ladies Member Guest); June 27 (Solheim Cup); July 25 (Chapman); August 8 (Canadian Senior PGA Championship at BGCC).
The Convener for Team Play is Kathy Moore. If you have any questions, you can email her at Kathleen.email@example.com
“My Best Score”
We are going to try something new this year…just for fun! All ladies are welcome to participate; here is how it works:
- Cost is $10.00 and you can pay on Opening Day or at the Team Play Draft Party (a table will be set up so that we can accept your money).
- The competition will run from May 16th – September 19th (same as Team Play).
- There will be a chart on the bulletin board in the Ladies Locker Room with all of the participants’ names. Participants will be divided into handicap flights.
- After your first game, you will enter your score hole by hole. Every time you play (not just on Tuesdays), you replace the score on any holes where you scored better than the previous time. You simply erase the old score for that hole and record the better one.
- At the end of the 15 weeks, you will be able to see your “Best Score”.
- Prizes will be awarded for the best scores in each flight.
Our Senior Ladies Club Championship will be held on Thurs Aug 17th-Fri Aug 18th. We are pleased to announce new names for our age specific categories this year PLUS we have a new category!!
- FAB FIFTIES (formerly Golden Girl)
- SASSY SIXTIES (formerly Diamond Lil)
- SENSATIONAL SEVENTIES (formerly Double Diamond Lil)
- AWESOME EIGHTIES PLUS (brand new)
All groups with the exception of “Awesome Eighties Plus” will play 18 holes both days. These ladies will only count 9 holes both days, however, can play 18 holes if they wish.
Personally, I will be competing in the FIBBING FORTIES. If this made you laugh, it means you’re reading my entire letter which makes me happy!
Our Ladies Club Championship will be held on Fri Aug 25th - Sun Aug 27th. All flights will be playing the full 3 days. There will be a cocktail reception and celebration for both Senior Ladies and Ladies Club Championships on Sun Aug 27th. We hope to see as many of you as possible sign up for one or both of these events.
The Business Women have been busy organizing their events for the upcoming season too. They will be hosting a “Wine & Cheese” evening on Wednesday April 26th. This is a chance for all of the Business Women to come out to meet each other and also a chance to give suggestions as to what you would like to see happen in this league. Here are the dates in place so far:
- April 26 – Wine & Cheese
- June 10 – Opening Day
- July 15 – BW Tournament
- Sept 23 – Closing Day
- Oct 21 – “Chili Open”
The Chair for the BW group is Lynn Graham. If you have any questions, you can email her at firstname.lastname@example.org
The LE will be sending out weekly updates through the e-blast news which is sent out by the Club every Thursday. Look out for “Ladies Golf” with a link to the “Golf Sisters”. These updates will be short and sweet but we think it’s important to showcase our weekly winners and to keep you up to date with the latest news!
Well…I think that is all I have to share for now. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at Kjdyson@sympatico.ca . I hope to golf with as many of you as possible this season and I look forward to seeing you at the Club soon!
