July 17, 2017

Dear Lady Members,

Happy summer!  We are about half way through our golf season…time flies while we’re having fun :). Fortunately, our Tuesdays have not been too badly affected by the buckets of rain we’ve been getting.

I would like to take this opportunity to update you on what is going on in our Ladies Section.  Right now, I am sending out a bi-monthly newsletter.  I don’t want to bombard you with too many emails…but if you think it’s not enough, please let me know!

Our upcoming events prior to the Club Championships are the Four Ball Better Ball tournament/lunch on July 18th, the Chapman on July25th, 2 Mulligans on the Back 9 on August 1st and Round 1 of the Robert Johnston on August 15th.  Please check the calendar for a description of these events and to sign up.

At our next two tournament lunches, Andy has organized a “Trunk Sale” for us.  He will be bringing in vendors that we don’t have the space to carry in the Pro Shop.  This will be an opportunity for you to see some new/different lines of golfing attire… Happy Browsing!

Interchanges

We hosted our first interchange with Beverly and received many wonderful comments and positive feedback.  Thanks to the ladies from our Club who were such gracious hosts!  Our next interchange will be at Hamilton Golf & Country Club on Thursday July 27th.  There is limited space available for this.  Our interchange with Mississaugua has had a slight change of plan.  Unfortunately, we were supposed to go there; however, they will be having some bunker renovations with temporary greens.  To make a long story short, we will be hosting them again this year on Thursday September 21st and we will be going to Mississaugua for the next 2 years.

Canadian Senior Championship

*A reminder that we do not have a Tuesday event on August 8th due to the Canada Senior Championship being held at our club.  While I’m on this topic, Cheryl Hoshowsky has asked me to let you know that volunteers are still needed for this event!

Match Play/Team Play/My Best Score

One of our members asked if we could post the Match Play charts out on the information boards by the Starter’s Hut.  This was a great suggestion!  Take a look because they’re already posted and you can see the up-to-date results.  Unfortunately some matches were determined by a coin flip due to missed deadlines so I’m hoping this will help to resolve this issue.

We are also half way through the season for Team Play and “My Best Score”.  I enjoy walking into our locker room to see some of you excitedly updating your best scores.  At the rate we’re progressing, many of us will be on the Tour in the near future!

Participation has been great for the Ladies Team Play!  Right now, it looks like the Sunshine Girls are leading the pack, followed by the Green Backs, the Blue Birdie Bandits, the Pink Partinis, the Orange Slices and the Red Hot Birdies.  Playoffs for Team Play begin on August 29th.

Club Championships

As you might remember from the survey last fall, the majority of the ladies who responded were in favour of trying out a new scenario for the Senior Ladies CC and the Ladies CC.  The Ladies Executive is really hoping for a strong show of support for these two events!

Our Senior Ladies Club Championship will be a 2 day event held on Thursday, August 17th – Friday, August 18th.  We have new names for our age specific categories PLUS we have a new category!!

  • FAB FIFTIES
  • SASSY SIXTIES
  • SENSATIONAL SEVENTIES
  • AWESOME EIGHTIES PLUS (brand new)

All groups with the exception of “Awesome Eighties Plus” will play 18 holes both days.  These ladies will only count 9 holes both days, however, can play 18 holes if they wish.

Our Ladies Club Championship will be held on Friday, August 25th – Sunday, August 27th.  All flights will be playing the full 3 days.  We will be having one cocktail reception and celebration for both the Senior Ladies and Ladies Club Championships on Sunday, August 27th

Everyone is welcome to sign up for both of these events (provided you meet the age criteria for the Senior CC).  Personally, this will be my first time signing up to play (due to past family commitments) so I am looking forward to the spirit of friendly competition and camaraderie!

Business Women

The Business Women have had 2 of their 5 tournaments so far.  The dates for their next events are:

  • August 5th – Wine & Cheese Tournament
  • September 23rd – Closing Day
  • October 21st – “Chili Open”

These events are all on the golf calendar and if you are interested in signing up, you will be directed to email Lynn Graham at leaner89@gmail.com

Communication

There are several ways for you to keep up to date with what is happening in our Ladies Section:

  • Bulletin Board in the Ladies Locker Room
  • BGCC website…Member Central…Golf Calendar/Tee Times…Tournaments…Tournament Results/Match Play Pairing Results (double click on the “i”)
  • BGCC website…Member Central…Uberflip (click on the bottom icon)…Golf Sisters Report
  • BGCC website…Member Central…Ladies Team Play
  • Weekly e-news emails sent out on Thursdays…link to Golf Sisters Report if recent

Also, here is an easy/fast way to enter your golf score:

  • BGCC website…Member Central…Golf Calendar/Tee Times…click on “hdc ?” on the date that you played and this will take you directly to enter your score.

I think that is about all of the information I have to share right now…phew!!  I hope you are enjoying your season so far.  The Ladies Executive is pleased by your support of the events we have planned.  If you have any suggestions/comments/questions/concerns, please don’t hesitate to call or email me…and I really mean that!  If I don’t know the answer, I will look into it.  I am trying to golf with as many of you as possible while I am in this role and it has been a real pleasure to get to know some of you a little better!

Warmest regards,

Karen Dyson
