ISSUE #1 MARCH 2018
Dear Lady Members,
HAPPY SPRING TIME!! Your Ladies Executive has been busy planning a wonderful season with lots of fun events. We hope that you’re as excited as we are about the prospect of getting back onto the golf course. Please take a few minutes to read this newsletter which is loaded with information that will make you want to start lacing up your golf shoes!
Our Ladies Calendar of events has been finalized. Click here to review and download.
Sign-up begins April 3rd for Opening Day, Match Play, Golf Clinics, Team Play, “My Best Score”.
Opening & Closing Day
The ability to sign up as a foursome for Closing Day last year was very well received so we will be trying this out for Opening Day as well. This does not preclude you from signing up as single, twosome or threesome and the Pro Shop will create your team. We are also planning a buffet for Opening Day, but we will make some minor changes to ensure that the buffet line-up does not interfere with the ambiance at the tables which are located close by.
This year, we are introducing a few games back into our rotation: TOES, Hollywood and Silent Partner. All Tuesday events will have a description when you sign up on the calendar. This is especially helpful for our newer members. The four tournament lunches will also include details about the menu and price when you sign up. We will be having “Fun Prize” events again…so watch out for those! 😊
“My Best Score” / Ringer Board
Back by popular demand, this event will run from May 15th – September 11th. The cost will remain at $10. Participants will be divided into handicap flights. After your first game, you will enter your score hole by hole. Every time you play (not just on Tuesdays), you replace the score on any holes where you scored better than the previous time. At the end of 15 weeks, you will be able to see your best score. Prizes will be awarded for the best scores in each flight.
Team Play League
I am happy to announce that we have a new convenor for this league! Janet Hutter, our Vice-Captain, will be taking on this role. A huge thank you to Kathy Moore for acting as convener for the last four years! Since Derek Koschir retired, we also have a new contact in the Pro Shop. Ryan Beaudoin will be inputting the scores and updating the website for us. We look forward to working with Ryan!
Based on feedback we received at the October Forum, we are making the following changes to the Team Play league:
- The number of Team Play days will be reduced to 12.
- The scoring criteria for participation points will be changed so that a set maximum number of players will be counted on Team Play days (this number will be determined once team numbers are finalized).
Both changes were made to take the pressure off any lady members who were worried about letting their team down if they couldn’t commit to playing on all the dates.
The Opening “Draft Party” will be held on Thursday, May 10th. The cost will remain at $75.00. This covers the “pay-outs” as well as the food at the Closing Party.
Birdie Tree Update
This year, those who score a birdie on a Tuesday will simply need to email our Vice-Captain, Janet Hutter firstname.lastname@example.org with the following information: Date of Birdie / Hole # / Name of one other person you played with. No cc’s will be required…Isn’t that “Tweet”?
Ladies Member Guest
The LMG Committee is excited to announce that this year’s event scheduled for Tuesday, June 12th, will be in support of a charity (Halton Women’s Place) rather than a themed event. There will be gift baskets and a 50/50 draw for the charity along with prizes for the participants. This promises to be a fun and cause worthy event!
“Mystery” you ask? “Yes, that’s right!” You will enjoy breakfast at our club before boarding a bus to… “Sorry, it’s top secret!” You will enjoy a round of golf followed by a wonderful lunch. The bus will then bring you back to our club. The cost is being finalized. Mark the date on your calendars: Tuesday, September 18th. Who doesn’t love a good mystery?
Hunter Armitage Tournament
It is BGCC’s turn to host this prestigious tournament this year which also happens to be the 85th anniversary! The date is set for Thursday, September 6th and everyone is welcome to participate. This event involves 4 other area clubs besides BGCC: Dundas Valley, Glendale, Beverly and Chedoke. Stay tuned for more details.
Club Championship Weekend
I’m sure most of you have heard the news that Burlington Golf & Country Club will be having a Club Championship weekend that will include Men’s, Ladies and Senior Ladies all in one celebratory weekend. It will be held on Labour Day Weekend (Sept 1-3rd 2018). We are hoping to have a “kick-off” BBQ Patio Party on the Friday night. There is already a “buzz” of excitement about this…so let’s keep the enthusiasm going all season long!! Your ideas are welcome.
The Ladies Executive has decided on the following format for our Ladies CC after carefully considering all feedback we received:
- Championship, A, B, C & D flights will be a 3-day event with a cut after the second day.
- Senior Club Championship will be a 2-day event.
The Golf Committee has sent out the following information to all BGCC members:
The Handicap Committee has been focused on raising the awareness of ensuring that all participants of golf events have a handicap that is reflective of their level of play. Significant improvement has been seen by all members in posting their scores, to the point where most members are at 100% score entry. To this end, it has been unanimously agreed by the Golf Committee that at the start of the 2018 golf season, a minimum 80% score entry will be required to participate in any BGCC golf event.
GGGolf Information Session & “Rules of Golf” Seminar
In order to ensure that all our lady members are “on board” with the new handicap regulation, the Ladies Executive would like to offer an information session to assist you in navigating our GGGolf System (Inputting your scores, etc.) This will take place on Thursday, May 3rd at 6pm. Right after this session at 7pm, we will host a “Rules of Golf” Seminar. A representative from Golf Ontario will give a seminar on the rules of golf in an easy to understand manner. You can sign up online for this.
The following Saturday dates are in place for the Business Women’s league:
- Opening Day: May 12th tee times at 1:00-1:30pm (followed by Wine & Cheese)
- June 2nd tee times at 1:00-1:30pm
- July 7th tee times at 1:00-1:30pm
- Closing Day: September 22nd tee times at 1:00-1:30pm

A favour to ask…
The Ladies Executive would appreciate knowing if any of our lady members are feeling under the weather (surgery, illness, etc.) or if they have experienced a recent loss or sad event. It would help us greatly if you hear of any news, if you would please email Louise McGillivray, our LE secretary: firstname.lastname@example.org. We try our best to keep a “pulse” on how our members are doing but we could certainly use your help!
Thank you for taking the time to read this newsletter right through to the end! As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to email me at email@example.com.
Looking forward to another fabulous golf season!
Karen Dyson 😊
